Home Portrait FAQ’s

Custom Home Portraits ~ FAQ’s

Is it a photograph or a painting?

Yes, actually, it’s both. I start with a photograph and then use digital tools and brushes to paint using a pen tablet. Using both Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter, I add depth, color, contrast, and, at times, extra elements that help to better tell the story of a particular home or building. The home portrait is then printed on artist’s canvas, to enhance the details of the painting.  For more details regarding how I create these paintings see the Home Portrait category in my blog.

Do you only do custom paintings of homes?

Whatever place is special to you would be a good subject for a painting.    One client asked me to paint a large tree that has guarded their home and been a special place to play as her children grew.

Custom paintings are also suitable for:

Porches ~ Entries ~ Gardens ~ Vacation homes ~ Farms ~ Landmarks ~ Churches ~ Businesses

They make a meaningful gift for many occasions:

Birthdays ~ Weddings ~ Mothers or Fathers Day ~ Anniversary ~ Christmas ~ Hanukkah ~ Thank-you ~ Housewarming ~ Moving away ~ Retirement ~ Real Estate Closing

How long does the process take?

Please allow a minimum of 5 weeks for the home portrait to be completed.

Can I provide my own photograph for you to use?

In some cases, as with an old family home, that may be all we have, so I would have to review the photograph and determine what is possible. Often, I can work with such images even if they need some restoration, though any restoration work may be an additional fee.

If it is a case where I would not readily be able to go to the home or scene and photograph it myself, you may be able to provide the photograph.  I have guidelines for taking your own photographs.  See them here.

What is the cost of a custom home portrait?

Your home portrait will be professionally printed as a canvas gallery wrap to best display it’s painterly qualities. Canvas gallery wraps start at $340 for an 11×14” painting. Optional framing as well as larger sizes are available. The process begins with a $200 deposit.
